|1. The Email Signature
Why is the email signature important? It might not be top of your priority list but the email signature has replaced the old hand written letter signature and is just as important in reflecting the professionalism of your company. Email signatures are so easy to do well, so it's a shame they are often done badly. Try to use a consistent font and colour which is unique to you, and include a small logo and contact details. Make use of the width of the email to avoid lots of scrolling for your recipient.
|2. The Letterhead
In all mail correspondence, the letterhead will be the first thing your recipient sees. The type of the paper, the margins, spacing and quality of the logo you use, will all reflect the professionalism of your organisation.
All of the above can be applied to email too. But because so many people are sadly failing in email where they once excelled in regular letters, you can gain an unfair advantage by adding a few simple but effective components to your email letterhead. The top left corner is the ideal place for your logo. Then a slogan describing your services and a link to your website will help your recipient understand what your organisation is about. Keep it tidy and concise to avoid the need for long scrolling and refrain from using it every time you correspond.
|3. The Invitation
Email invitation design is probably the most important of all. If it's an invite to an event, the chances are your recipient hasn't asked for this email, so you need to grab their attention and make them want to read on. It seems obvious to give your guests a little more than just a date, time, place and some contact info, yet many people are failing to excite their guests with imagery and colour. Create a buzz for the occasion by describing the enjoyable parts of the event. Try to imagine what motivates guests to attend and then create your invite based on that. Most important of all, think of great title. This will be in subject line of your email and will determine if it gets opened in the first place.
